Study Explains How Cannabis Kills Cancer Cells
A study published recently in Nature Reviews-Cancer provides an historic and detailed explanation about how THC and natural cannabinoids counteract cancer, but preserve normal cells.
| The study by Manuel Guzmán of Madrid Spain found that cannabinoids, the active components of marijuana, inhibit tumor growth in laboratory animals.
They do so by modulating key cell-signalling pathways, thereby inducing direct growth arrest and death of tumor cells, as well as by inhibiting the growth of blood vessels that supply the tumor. The Guzman study is very important according to Dr. Ethan Russo , a neurologist and world authority on medical cannabis: |

| “Cancer occurs because cells become immortalized; they fail to heed normal signals to turn off growth. A normal function of remodelling in the body requires that cells die on cue. This is called apoptosis, or programmed cell death. | |
| That process fails to work in tumors. THC promotes its reappearance so that gliomas, leukemias, melanomas and other cell types will in fact heed the signals, stop dividing, and die.”
“But, that is not all,” explains Dr. Russo: “The other way that tumors grow is by ensuring that they are nourished: they send out signals to promote angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels. Cannabinoids turn off these signals as well. It is truly incredible, and elegant.” In other words, this article explains several ways in which cannabinoids might be used to fight cancer, and, as the article says, “Cannabinoids are usually well tolerated, and do not produce the generalized toxic effects of conventional chemotherapies.

| But if marijuana is involved, don’t expect any coverage from mainstream media, especially since mainstream editors have been quietly killing this story for the past thirty years.That’s right, news about the abilility of pot to shrink tumors first surfaced, way back in 1974. Researchers at the Medical College of Virginia, who had been funded by the National Institutes of Health to find evidence that marijuana damages the immune system, found instead that THC slowed the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice — lung and breast cancer, and a virus-induced leukemia.
The Washington Post reported on the 1974 study — in the “Local” section — on Aug. 18, 1974. Under the headline, “Cancer Curb Is Studied,” it read in part: “The active chemical agent in marijuana curbs the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice and may also suppress the immunity reaction that causes rejection of organ transplants, a Medical College of Virginia team has discovered.” The researchers “found that THC slowed the growth of lung cancers, breast cancers, and a virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, and prolonged their lives by as much as 36 percent.” “News coverage of the Madrid discovery has been virtually nonexistent in this country. The news broke quietly on Feb. 29, 2000 with a story that ran once on the UPI wire about the Nature Medicine article,” complained MarijuanaNews.com editor Richard Cowan, who said he was only able to find the article through a link that appeared briefly on the Drudge Report Web page. “The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times all ignored the story, even though its newsworthiness is indisputable: a benign substance occurring in nature destroys deadly brain tumors,” added Cowan. On March 29, 2001, the San Antonio Current printed a carefully researched, bombshell of a story by Raymond Cushing titled, “POT SHRINKS TUMORS; GOVERNMENT KNEW IN ‘74.” Media coverage since then has been nonexistant, except for a copy of the story on Alternet . It is hard to believe that the knowledge that cannabis can be used to fight cancer has been suppressed for almost thirty years , yet it seems likely that it will continue to be suppressed. Why? According to Cowan, the answer is because it is a threat to cannabis prohibition . “If this article and its predecessors from 2000 and 1974 were the only evidence of the suppression of medical cannabis, then one might perhaps be able to rationalize it in some herniated way. However, there really is massive proof that the suppression of medical cannabis represents the greatest failure of the institutions of a free society, medicine, journalism, science, and our fundamental values,” Cowan notes. Millions of people have died horrible deaths and in many cases, familes exhausted their savings on dangerous, toxic and expensive drugs. I thought this was a joke. Ron White gets arrested for 3 grams of weed in Vero Beach, Florida coming off his plane after the cops were tipped off by a “snitch.”( Apparently he has some disgruntled former employees, pilots who previously flew him to shows.)
After dealing with the Dirty South Drug Squad, Ron was released and then gave two sold performances at the local theatre.
Oh man, Vero is gonna be on HBO.
Ron made a valid claim that his Marijuana was for medical purposes.
I will follow up on this…

Alot of people speculate about how the drug war will be affected depending on who wins the Presidential elections coming up in November. Lets make it real easy…Bill didnt inhale and his administration punished marijuana consumers. Hillary wont even bat a lazy eye in upping the ante on punishing liberal democrats for supporting Obama…she will probably have kitchen sink full of prisons if elected. McCain is a conservative who will follow Bush’s strategy of “all stick, no carrot”..in other words…the same ole same ole..and thats not progress.
So we have Obama…and if you can get your racist mindset to take a lunch break, you will find that he has actually admitted to dabbling in the recreational use of some drugs and doesn’t seem to think that it had a negative affect on him. Will he still leave the existing Criminal complex alone or will he move towards harm reduction, treating mj as a health concern, and perhaps bridge the gap between spiritual freedom and the first admendment’s doctrine that the people have a right to express their spirituality in whatever method works…??
I think Barack can make the best decisions regarding the drug conundrum that is the USA. We have cocaine, crack, meth, oxy, heroin and other drugs destroying lives…which has me thinking Obama can see thru the haze of reefer madness and set forth a better drug policy(reform) that will help us find a healthier path in our pursuit of happiness.
Hope is “DOPE”…man(say it like the DUDE!!)…as in…cool…as in change..as in …a better way..a better space..a better place…WE can get there with the right people in charge.

Bill McCollum’s battle cry against Reefer Madness and Latino Criminality has hit homeruns with a string of grow houses….with all the accoutrements(guns, drugs, money…santeria candles..) going down to the local police.
Houses in Brevard and Dade were also shut down as well as large grow ops in Polk County and Highland County.

With the growth of the gaming industry resembling the rise of the Internet of the mid nineties, It always seemed to me that we were trying to create virtual recreation in lieu of getting out of the house and working up a sweat. The Matrix storyline eludes to a time when we will be so plugged in to whats on the box…whats pumping thru a cable feed, what game is so intense one cannot separate reality from fiction…..it had me pondering.
What other games are out there that arent necessarily electronic, but have us so consumed with winning instead of turning the game off, that we inevitably become losers in a nationwide battle for Rationality.
The Drug War, especially the efforts by the government and law enforcement to enforce unreasonable law concerning the production, distribution, and ingestion/inhalation of cannabis and its various formats/concentrations for public consumption has been haunting the average Joe since 1937.
In Response, I decided to take on the game itself, the one on you and others like you who harm no one, are not victims, and wish only to increase the quality of your life in the here and now….others have called it the Pursuit of Happiness.

Pot group wants Williams Rocky Mountain High

An activist group that successfully campaigned to repeal a pot possession law in Denver wants running back Ricky Williams to sign with the Broncos.
The group, Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation, said today that it will lease a billboard across from Invesco Field at Mile High beckoning Williams to Denver “where people support your safer choice.”
Williams, who is currently under suspension from the National Football League for violating the drug policy four times, applied for reinstatement Monday.
Safer spokesman Mason Tvert said the group’s billboard will go up Wednesday. A design released today showed an orange and blue sign with the back of a dreadlocked man in a Bronco’s uniform.
The billboard basically invites Mr. Williams to the Mile High City… “Ricky, come to Denver, where the people support your “SAFER choice” to use marijuana instead of alcohol. (SAFERchoice.org)
The former Heisman Trophy and NFL rushing title winner is still under contract with the Miami Dolphins.
This is not the first billboard stunt for Tvert and Safer. Under pressure in 2005, the group replaced a billboard showing a woman with a battered face with a white sign reading “Alcohol use makes domestic violence 8 times more likely. Marijuana use does not…”
